The award-winning family-run Malt Shovel country pub and restaurant is located in the picturesque village of Brearton within a short drive of the spa town of Harrogate. Originally a 16th-century inn, the whitewashed picture postcard building has colourful window boxes and hanging baskets throughout the summer months. The beautiful interior blends contemporary style with character features including exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings, stone flagged floors, wood burning stoves, traditional oak furniture and mellow lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Dining areas are carefully arranged to provide cosy intimate corners with interesting pictures and decor to admire. There is also an attractive beer garden to the rear, the perfect spot to relax in fine weather and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Children and dogs are most welcome (dogs only in the garden). A favourite with walkers too, The Malt Shovel provides maps of local routes and, of course, offers the ideal place to refuel.
The restaurant has a long-established reputation for its superb cuisine. The head chef and his team aim to provide delicious, wholesome and exciting food using premium quality locally sourced produce whenever possible. Freshly cooked to order, both the lunch and dinner menus offer a wonderful choice of starters, mains and desserts, and for lunch a selection of light bites and sandwiches are also served. Those requiring gluten free are very well catered for and options are offered across the menus and clearly marked (GF). Traditional Sunday lunch is a fantastic treat not to be missed and gluten free and vegetarian options are available on request. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are more than happy to help and answer any questions regarding food preparation and ingredients.
