Welcome to Plato’s Restaurant and Bar situated in the delightful historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria, on the borders with North Yorkshire and Lancashire. Located amid quaint buildings and cobbled streets, Plato’s is a deceptively spacious and contemporary venue whilst retaining the warmth and charm of its historic past.
Throughout the day, from breakfast to evening meals, Plato’s delivers delicious high quality food beautifully prepared and presented. Using fresh, local produce whenever possible, the menus change with the seasons so there is always something new and different to tempt the discerning diner.
The extensive menu also offers an impressive range of gluten free options, you will truly be spoilt for choice! The Daytime Menu begins with Brunch – GF options include Eggs Benedict, bread, baked ham, spinach, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce. Lunchtime choices include Sandwiches – Steak salad wrap with blue cheese dressing and Confit shredded duck, stir-fry vegetables and hoisin wrap. Salads and Starters are available too – tasty Chicken Caesar salad or Salmon Nicoise. For starters try Homemade soup-of-the-day with crisp sourdough croutons, or Creamed goats cheese, pomegranate, orange, panzanella salad, pineapple and chilli salsa (wow!) or delicious Steamed Scottish mussels and Aspall’s cider broth. For something a little more substantial opt for the Brasserie menu: Dry aged steak-frites, crispy French fries, wild garlic butter, roasted English asparagus; Lemon and thyme roasted chicken breast with seasonal vegetables; or the ever popular Beer battered haddock, chunky chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce.
The amazing gluten free options continue with the Evening Menu: Starters include (to name but one) Chalk stream trout, heritage tomatoes, capers and herb oil. Mains offer Rump of lamb, aubergine jam, courgettes and Lancashire cheese polenta; Pork belly, celeriac remoulade, green pepper relish, fondant potato; Pan fried cod, warm tartare sauce, samphire, new potatoes.
